Parks and Recreation
The City of Manteca Parks & Recreation Department serves thousands of individuals which include infants, youth, teens and adults throughout the greater Manteca area. The recreation department offers programs and services that facilitate health and wellness along with human development. It is one of their goals to strengthen the family unit and provide recreational opportunities for individuals for the purpose of positively affecting the quality of life for all those involved. The Parks and Recreation Department oversees more than 300 acres of Neighborhood and Community Parks, Tidewater Bike Way, Skate Park and the Senior Center.
Shopping and Dining
Downtown Manteca offers end of the 19th Century streetscape, specialty shops, and numerous restaurants, including a brewery, ethnic shops, and murals. Enjoy wine tastings and the Promenade shops at Orchard Valley, anchored by Bass Pro Shops. If you like farmers markets you will enjoy the traditional Downtown Tuesday nights farmers markets where you will find great sights and smells of local fresh fruit and vegetables.
Living
Due to Manteca's attractiveness, the population in the city limits is currently almost 60,000. The City's population growth is significantly outpacing the State of California, as is the growth of other San Joaquin County cities. There are approximately 160,000 people living within a 10-mile radius of Manteca. Currently, residential growth is just under 3% per year. The newest homes being built range in size generally from 1,600 to 3,700 square feet and typically cost between $275,000 and $425,000.
Schools, Health, and Transportation
Manteca has a number of education facilities including 20 elementary schools, 5 comprehensive high schools, one adult school and three alternative high schools. The CTBS (California Test Basic Skills) is administered annually to incoming freshmen. Students have scored consistently above the National and State averages in English, Math, Reading, and Science.
Health facilities in Manteca include two acute care hospitals, Doctors Hospital and Kaiser Hospital, with a total bed capacity of 139. The Kaiser Permanente Clinic is also available to serve the community and opened in 1998.
Manteca is served by Ace Rail, Dial-A-Ride, SMA ADA Dial-a-Ride (Reservations required 1 to 7 days in advance), Manteca Transit, and San Joaquin Regional Transit District (SJRTD)
